In the wake of the Taliban's swift takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, the world watched in horror as the hard-fought gains made by women and girls over the past two decades were swiftly erased. Schools were closed, women were banned from working, and those who dared to protest were met with violence.
But even in the darkest of times, there are always those who refuse to be silenced. Shooting Kabul: The Kabul Chronicles is the extraordinary story of three young women who fought to keep their dreams alive in a country torn apart by conflict.
Set against the backdrop of the Taliban's rise to power, the book follows the lives of Fatima, Shafiqa, and Zahra. Fatima is a doctor who dreams of opening her own clinic. Shafiqa is a journalist who wants to tell the stories of her people. And Zahra is a schoolteacher who believes that education is the key to a better future.
As the Taliban tightens its grip on Afghanistan, the women's lives become increasingly difficult. They are forced to wear burqas, they are not allowed to leave their homes without a male escort, and they are constantly under threat of violence. But despite the risks, they refuse to give up on their dreams.
Shooting Kabul: The Kabul Chronicles is a powerful and inspiring story of survival, friendship, and courage. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of hope in even the darkest of times.
