Joseph Yule Jr., better known as Mickey Rooney, was born on September 23, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, Kate and Joe Yule Sr., were vaudeville performers who instilled in him a love for the stage at an early age. Rooney began performing at just two years old, and by the time he reached adolescence, he was a seasoned veteran of the entertainment world.

In 1932, Rooney's breakout role came in the film "The Big Broadcast." His infectious charm and remarkable acting skills captivated audiences, and he quickly became one of the most popular child stars in Hollywood. Over the next decade, Rooney starred in a string of successful films, including "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1935),"Captains Courageous" (1937),and "Babes in Arms" (1939).

As Rooney transitioned to adulthood, his career continued to flourish. He starred in a series of comedies with the likes of Judy Garland and Betty Grable, and he also began to take on more dramatic roles. In 1957, Rooney received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in "The Bold and the Brave."

In addition to his film work, Rooney also enjoyed a successful career on stage. He headlined numerous Broadway productions, including "Sugar" (1972) and "The Will Rogers Follies" (1991). He also made frequent appearances on television, starring in such shows as "The Mickey Rooney Show" (1954-1955) and "The Twilight Zone" (1961).

Rooney's life was not without its challenges. He struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, and he faced numerous personal and financial setbacks. However, through it all, he maintained a love for his craft and a deep affection for his fans.

Rooney was married eight times and had nine children. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and he found joy in his family life. In his later years, Rooney became an advocate for Alzheimer's research, after his wife Jan Chamberlin was diagnosed with the disease.

A Legendary Legacy

Mickey Rooney passed away on April 6, 2014, at the age of 93. He left behind a legacy that spanned nearly 100 years and included over 200 films and dozens of stage and television performances.
